Promoting ecological sustainability and environmental stewardship are important objectives at BIU. These goals tie in closely with our core values of global citizenship, inclusivity, and innovation. We are deeply committed to safeguarding our local communities from the dangers of diminishing water security and the loss of green spaces. A cornerstone of our approach is the integration of eco-friendly practices across our campus infrastructure. Notably, we have allocated a substantial portion, approximately 70%, of our campus to verdant green spaces. These spaces will also be offered to the public in perpetuity for enjoyment and preservation of cultural practices. The traditional stewards of the mountains will also be welcome to preserve their livestock feeding trails with careful attention to the honouring of the nation that has hosted us. We have pioneered sustainability in the Kurdistan region by using solar panels as our primary source of electricity. In addition, we are implementing comprehensive water conservation strategies. By establishing a strategically located pond near our campus, we aim to effectively capture and store rainwater. This initiative-taking approach not only enhances underground water reserves during summer months but also mitigates the risk of flooding during winter seasons. Inside our campus, through the adoption of digital technologies, we streamline administrative processes and diminish our reliance on paper-based documentation.
